At the time, director Michael Grandage was running the show at The Donmar Warehouse in London and The Crucible in Sheffield; Tim Firth (of Neville's Island fame) was just about to write the Calendar Girls movie for Disney; Alan Ayckbourn had written his 957th play; and Yorkshire arts impressario Simon Thackray was enticing big names to his Shed.
